UAAP: FEU beats UP to boost Final Four bid in women’s volleyball; Tamaraws secure twice-to-beat in men’s play

Far Eastern University defeated the University of the Philippines, 25-21, 22-25, 25-19, 25-22, on Sunday in the UAAP Season 88 women’s volleyball tournament at the UST Quadricentennial Pavilion to keep its Final Four hopes alive.

The win improved the Lady Tamaraws’ record to 7-5, tying them with Adamson University and the University of Santo Tomas in the middle of the standings.

Cla Loresco led FEU with 17 points, while Alyzza Devosora added 12 points and 21 receptions.

“Actually, ‘yung mindset talaga namin ‘this is our last match.’ Lahat ng remaining games namin sobrang importante. Focus lang kami on how to recover from all our lapses—mentally, and some technical and tactical. Iko-continue lang namin,” said FEU head coach Tina Salak, as her team snapped a two-game skid.

Nina Ytang, meanwhile, paced UP with 19 points, while Kianne Olango had 15 points and 12 receptions. Louise Bansil and Jel Gajero chipped in 14 points apiece as the Fighting Maroons slipped to 5-7, nearing elimination.

Earlier, the FEU men’s team secured a twice-to-beat advantage after sweeping UP, 25-23, 25-18, 25-17.

Charles Absin led the Tamaraws with 11 points, while Dryx Saavedra added nine as FEU improved to 11-1.

The Tamaraws’ victory sealed their third straight Final Four appearance.

Olayemi Raheem, meanwhile, had 15 points as UP dropped to 3-9.
