UAAP: Aleksi Lahteenmaki steps in for UP as Fabio Menta takes leave due to health reasons

University of the Philippines assistant coach Aleksi Lahteenmaki will take over for Fighting Maroons head coach Fabio Menta for the remainder of the season as the latter attends to health concerns.

The UP Office for Athletics and Sports Development announced the development on Wednesday following the team’s loss to Adamson University. Lahteenmaki handled coaching duties for the Diliman-based squad during the match at the UST Quadricentennial Pavilion.

“We hope Coach Fabio feels better sooner than later, so for our last game this season, let's just all support coach Aleksi and the rest of our girls in trying to get us a season-ending win,” said Bo Perasol in a statement.

The UP OASD also said Menta will remain as the head coach of the women's volleyball team.

Lahteenmaki also serves as an assistant coach for Colegio de San Juan de Letran and was part of the staff under head coach Mayeth Carolino during the Intramuros-based team’s title run in NCAA Season 101.

UP, already eliminated from Final Four contention with a 5-8 record, will face University of Santo Tomas on Sunday to wrap up its campaign.
