UAAP: Ateneo snaps five-game skid, UE closes women’s volleyball campaign winless
Ateneo de Manila University snapped a five-game losing streak at the expense of the winless University of the East, 25-23, 25-19, 29-27, on Saturday at the UST Quadricentennial Pavilion.
The Lady Warriors threatened to extend the match after building a 24-22 lead in the third set. However, consecutive points from Ana Hermosura and Jlo Delos Santos leveled the score at 24-all.
Ateneo briefly regained the advantage at 27-26, only for UE to respond following a service error by KC Cortez. The Lady Warriors’ hopes faded after an attack error by Van Bangayan, before Delos Santos sealed the victory with an ace.
“This is the purpose—to never give up. You need to stay at a high level all the time. In the end, we had a good fight. The team maintained strong focus until the end,” said Ateneo head coach Sergio Veloso.
Donna De Leon led Ateneo with 14 points, while Jihan Chuatico added 12. Hermosura contributed 11 points along with 11 receptions.
For UE, Cepada paced the Lady Warriors with 18 points, 13 receptions, and 11 digs, while Bangayan added 12 points.
With the victory, Ateneo improved to a 2-11 record, while UE concluded its campaign without a win.
In the men’s division earlier, the University of the East defeated Ateneo, 25-16, 22-25, 25-18, 25-22.
