UAAP: NU clinches No. 2 seed in women’s volleyball; UST, FEU to battle for No. 4
National University secured the No. 2 seed heading into the UAAP Season 88 women’s volleyball postseason after outlasting the University of Santo Tomas, 19-25, 23-25, 25-18, 25-18, 15-13, on Wednesday in the tournament’s final elimination round game at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The win lifted NU to a 10-4 record and earned it a bye to the second round of the stepladder semifinals, while UST dropped to 8-6.
The Lady Bulldogs will await the winner of the matchup between No. 3 Adamson and the survivor of the playoff for the fourth seed between UST and FEU.
Arah Panique led NU with 24 points, while Sam Cantada added 20 points and 17 receptions. Vange Alinsug chipped in 13 points, and Shaira Jardio anchored the floor defense with 33 excellent receptions and 16 digs.
For UST, Angge Poyos tallied 24 points and 15 receptions, while Reg Jurado contributed 21 points and 16 digs.
