Canino, Laput, Provido beg off from Alas Pilipinas duties in AVC Women’s Cup

De La Salle University stars Angel Canino, Shevana Laput, and Amie Provido have begged off from joining the Alas Pilipinas national team for the upcoming AVC Women’s Cup.

In an Instagram story on Thursday, Canino said they would prioritize their recovery after a grueling UAAP season in which the Lady Spikers won the title.

“To be invited to the National Team training pool is a privilege I never take for granted, and playing for the Philippine flag is the highest honor,” Canino wrote in her story.

“However, coming off the high intensity of UAAP Season 88, Amie, Shevana, and I have decided to prioritize our physical recovery. We first need to let our bodies heal and rest so that we can give our best to the game.”

Canino said they have communicated their decision to the Philippine National Volleyball Federation, adding that “our hearts are with the team as they compete in the AVC Women’s Cup 2026.”

Canino and Provido played for the national team in the Southeast Asian Games last December, while Laput has yet to suit up for the national team.

On Tuesday, PNVF president Tony Boy Liao said Jia de Guzman, Bella Belen, Mars Alba, Justine Jazareno, Shaina Nitura, and Alyssa Solomon had also declined, according to reports.

The AVC Women’s Cup will be held in Candon City from June 6 to 14.
