POC formally suspends PNVF following FIVB’s ruling

The Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) on Wednesday has officially suspended the Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) following the same sanction imposed by the international governing body.

POC president Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino bared the development after an Executive Board meeting, where the suspension was voted unanimously by the board members.

“The suspension comes automatically from the international federation’s suspension of its national federation,” said Tolentino.

The FIVB suspended PNVF last May 29 over governance concerns and violation on ethics code.

The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) has also suspended all funding options for PNVF, a decision that was also rooted from governances issues and non-compliance with the policy of the government sports body, according tot he POC.

Several members of the PNVF board have also withdrawn their support from the federation, citing loss of confidence on the leadership of PNVF president Tonyboy Liao.

Liao has since slammed the decision by the board and said he remains committed to cooperate with proper institutions.

“Their latest election, for the POC, is invalid—no notice to the POC and no observer from the POC,” Tolentino said.

Tolentino added that POC is awaiting the FIVB decision from the Ad Hoc Committee it formed to oversee the sport while the national federation is suspended.
