All PNVF board members resign as new elections loom

All members of the Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) board have filed for resignation, paving the way for fresh elections as the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) seeks to iron out the leadership crisis that led to the federation's suspension.

POC president Abraham "Bambol" Tolentino revealed that all of the PNVF board members have agreed to step down following a general assembly on Monday morning at the Solaire Theater Board Room in Parañaque City.

During the meeting attended by different volleyball stakeholders in the country, it was agreed that a new PNVF Board will be composed of 13 members, which will include athlete representatives as well as representatives from both the UAAP and the NCAA. The POC will also have a seat on the board.

"This is to introduce inclusivity and, more importantly, that the stakeholders prioritize the call of the national team,” Tolentino said.

The POC added that another general assembly will be held on August 10 to discuss the election procedures and other details ahead of the fresh polls.

The development came nearly two months after the FIVB---the international governing body for the sport---suspended the PNVF on May 29 over governance concerns and violations of its Code of Ethics.

In the wake of the FIVB sanction, the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) halted all funding for the federation, while the POC also imposed its own suspension and assumed the role of caretaker for all national volleyball federation activities.
