PLDT escapes Akari, remains spotless in PVL On Tour
PLDT remained unscathed in the 2026 PVL On Tour after outlasting Akari, 25-14, 26-24, 21-25, 25-20, on Saturday at the Mindanao Civic Center Gymnasium in Lanao del Norte.
The High Speed Hitters, who ruled the previous edition in a sweep fashion, captured their second win in as many games while Akari slipped to a 1-2 record.
Savi Davison starred in the four-set romp with 22 points laced with nine digs and 13 receptions while Kim Kianna Dy churned out nine markers to help turn back the Chargers, who were coming off a breakthrough win against Choco Mucho.
After a dominant Set 1 win, PLDT had to dig deep in Set 2 after Akari raced to a 22-16 cushion in bid to level the series. But reigning preseason champions mounted a fightback by unleashing a 6-0 run to force a 22-all deadlock.
Ivy Lacsina then buried back-to-back points that allowed Akari to clinch set point at 24-22, but PLDT responded with a 4-0 swing to take a commanding 2-0 lead.
Akari capitalized on a string of late errors from PLDT in the third set, forcing a fourth set to keep the match alive. But the High Speed Hitters never allowed Akari to gain any momentum in the fourth set, with Davison delivering the match point before a miscommunication on the Chargers’ side sealed the victory for PLDT.
Only Faith Nisperos had a double-digit outing for Akari after she finished with 12 points paired with six digs as Chenie Tagaod tallied eight markers.
