Over 5k individuals affected by Habagat in Tarlac receive food packs from GMA Kapuso Foundation

A total of 5,200 individuals in Paniqui, Tarlac, who have been affected by the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat received food packs and biscuits from the GMA Kapuso Foundation.

According to a "24 Oras" report on Friday, residents in Barangay Isidro have built a makeshift bridge using bamboo abnd metal to cross flooded areas and reach their homes.

“The water level may still rise and fall. Once the water in Camiling subsides, we expect the water to reach this area," said Manuel Sambo of the Paniqui Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office in Filipino.

Marita Sibaton's family was among the 300 families who stayed in evacuation centers. They had to cross waist-deep floods just to get home, and they were unable to access their water supply because their well had been submerged in the flood.

“It’s difficult. We can’t sleep properly at the evacuation center. There’s no water in the restroom because there’s no NAWASA service there now, it’s damaged," she said in Filipino.

Per the report, this situation is not new to them, but she is still hoping for a solution.

"We hope a proper solution can be found. This happens to us every year. We’re the ones who suffer because of it," she said.

Through its Operation Bayanihan project, the GMA Kapuso Foundation, alongside the Universal Guardians Brotherhood - Tarlac chapter, distributed food packs and biscuits to a total of 5,200 individuals in four evacuation centers in Paniqui.

The foundation also delivered aid to those affected in San Simon, San Luis, and Guagua in Pampanga.

The relief operations under Operation Bayanihan are set to continue in the coming days.
