Japanese company donates P30M to GMA Kapuso Foundation

A Japanese company has donated P30 million to the GMA Kapuso Foundation.

According to a report on "24 Oras," Tuesday, Nitori Holdings Co., Ltd. also donated two 20-foot container vans holding brand new beddings, housewares, and clothes, amounting to P7.5 million.

The donations went through the Office of the First Lady in Malacanang and the Department of Tourism.

The Department of the Interior and Local Government also helped to make sure that the donations would make it to the families affected by the 7.8 magnitude earthquake that struck Mindanao in June.

The donations were formally turned over to the GMA Kapuso Foundation and was accepted by GMA Senior Vice President and GMA Kapuso Foundation trustee Annette Gozon-Valdes.

"Nitori is the biggest lifestyle company in Japan. Pareho tayong bansa na maraming disasters eh. And they're especially compassionate for victims like them," DOT Secretary Dita Angara-Mathay said.

"The government, through the Office of the First Lady, introduced GMA Kapuso Foundation as a trusted organization that is responsible and effective in managing the delivery of support to those in need. That is why we decided to choose it," said Akio Nitori, Chairman and CEO of Nitori Holdings Co., Ltd.

The cash donation will be used to build temporary shelter pods for families with totally damaged houses in Malapatan, Sarangani; Alabel, Sarangani; Jose Abad Santos, Davao Occidental; Barangay San Jose, General Santos City; and Tupi, South Cotabato.

"Nagpapasalamat tayo and we promise to execute their donation to the best of our ability. At serbisyong totoo talaga ang gagawin ng Kapuso Foundation," Gozon-Valdes said.

The material donations will be given to 3,500 families with partially damaged houses in Malapatan, Sarangani; Glan, Sarangani; Maasim, Sarangani; Alabel, Sarangani; Jose Abad Santos, Davao Occidental; and Polomolok, South Cotabato.

For those who wish to support GMA Kapuso Foundation's projects, donations may be made via Metrobank, Land Bank, BDO, Bank of Commerce, UnionBank, PNB, Cebuana Lhuillier, GCash, Lazada, Shopee, and Palawan Pay.
