MANILA, Philippines - For duping 38 aspiring overseas Filipino workers, a man and a woman were charged with large scale illegal recruitment on Thursday. Remedios Fernandez and Rolando D.G. Fernandez, both of Well Being Recruiters Manila International Incorporated were charged before the Manila Regional Trial Court for collecting placement fees that ranged from P10,000 to P164,500 and failing to deploy the complainants to their destination countries. Third Assistant City Prosecutor Renato Gonzaga found probable cause that warranted the filing of violation of Section 6 (l) and (m) of Republic Act No, 8042, or illegal recruitment in a large scale against the two. Gonzaga recommended no bail for the accused. In a four-page information, the prosecutor noted that the accused failed to appear before the Manila Prosecutor’s office despite a subpoena issued against them. Records showed that the two conspired with each other to recruit the complainants whom they promised of supposed employment as either fish packers, factory workers or offshore workers in either Romania, Alaska or Minnesota in the United States. - GMANews.TV
