OFW killed in road accident in eastern Saudi Arabia


MANILA, Philippines - A Filipino worker was killed in a car accident in the eastern region of Saudi Arabia earlier this week, a report reaching the Philippine Embassy in Riyadh say. Joven C. Canubas Jr. died Monday night after a van he was riding collided with a truck while passing along the Khurais area of the Aramco Khurais Crude Complex project in Saudi Arabia, said the report prepared by the victim’s co-workers at the Saudi Arabian Saipem in Dammam, Saudi Arabia. Canubas, a pipe-fitter for Saudi Arabian Saipem, was declared dead on arrival at the King Fajad Hofuf Hospital, after which his body was brought to the Dammam Hospital, said the report. His personal belongings would be sent back to the Philippines by the Human Resources Department of Saipem, said the report. Canubas’ coworkers also asked the Embassy to inform victim’s family of the incident and provide them the needed assistance for immediate repatriation of his remains. Embassy officials were not available for comment but one of Canubas’ coworkers who prepared the report but who asked not to be named, said he was told that the victim’s family in Cebu had already been confirmed by the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) of the accident. - GMANews.TV
