Giant batchoy bowl to become landmark in Iloilo City
MANILA - The giant stainless steel bowl used in Thursday's attempt to set a record for the world's biggest batchoy bowl will be made a landmark in Iloilo City's La Paz district. Visayas-based Bombo Radyo reported Friday that Iloilo City tourism officer Ben Jimena said his office asked the city council to pass a resolution making the bowl a city landmark. Several cooks on Thursday whipped up a huge batch of the noodle dish using the bowl, then served it to street children and tourists. Federico Guillergan Jr., whose father Federico Sr. founded the original La Paz batchoy, said they spent P80,000 to serve the batchoy. He said the amount covered 100 kilos of noodles, 100 kilos of pork, 100 kilos of beef, 80 kilos of pork liver, 38 gallons of water, and 20 kilos of black pepper. The bowl itself was bought from Cebu for P180,000. Guillergan, whose father whipped up the first batchoy in 1928, said it would be an honor to be named in the Guinness Book of World Records. - GMANews.TV
