Free computer courses for Filipinos in UAE

MANILA, Philippines - As part of the Philippine government’s effort to ease the impact of the global financial crisis, at least seven hundred Filipinos working and residing in Dubai and Northern Emirates, would benefit from free computer courses. The free computer lessons would take place in Rewaq Cultural Centre in Al Twar 2 and at Abu Bakr Assiddiq Islamic Center in Dubai and will run every Friday for two and a half months or ten weeks. It is part of the Philippine’s reintegration program to assist Filipino workers who lost their jobs as a result of the recession. Majority of the participants are overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who are hoping that the skills they will acquire from the free lessons would help them find a new career or livelihood that is essential in these times when many businesses opt to shut down their operations. According to the instructor for web development, database and programming, Milo Torres, to develop and maintain web sites, be able to configure and assemble personal computers, and understand the basics of Network Administration. The short computer training intended for Filipino expatriates aims to teach participants how to create and maintain web sites, configure and assemble personal computers, and gain basic knowledge on Network Administration. This was informed by the instructor for web development, database and programming, Milo Torres, which is a member of the Filipino Computer Club (FCC). The president of the FCC, Cherry Pye Torres said that the courses was designed to teach the basics of computer operation to those who are just starting or are new to computer applications.
