US man's world seems to crumble over loss of Pinay wife

MANILA, Philippines - Omri Yigal thought he had all the universe when he brought his 53-year-old Filipino wife Dolores ‘Doris’ Carbonilas to the US last year. Everything was going well in Yigal’s household until that fateful day on April 4 when New York police knocked on his door to deliver the painful news: his wife of three years was dead. Dolores was taking English lessons at the American Civic Center on Front Street in Binghamton, New York in hopes of landing a job there, when Vietnamese immigrant Jiverly Wong stormed inside and began a shooting rampage. Wong killed 13 people before shooting himself. Yigal was told his wife died instantly in the incident. “[At least] she didn’t suffer," Yigal was quoted as saying. People from eight countries have been identified as the victims of the deadly rampage in New York. Two more were from Vietnam, including the gunman. Two were from Haiti. The remaining four were from Pakistan, the Philippines, Iraq and Brazil. Officials have said Wong was apparently upset about losing his job at a vacuum plant and about people picking on him for his limited English. “I’m at a terrible loss," Yigal told GMA News in an interview. “Doris represents my everything, my universe." Dolores’ body will be flown back to her hometown in Talisay, Cebu in the coming days but Yigal was still in shock about the whole incident. "Although she is gone, I still say things like, 'I miss you, I love you, what am I gonna do without you?’ " he added. - Mark Joseph Ubalde, GMANews.TV
