DFA: Pinoys safe in Uganda after twin bombings
No Filipino was reported hurt in the twin bombings that rocked Kampala town in Uganda last July 11, a belated Department of Foreign Affairs report said Tuesday. Citing a report from the Philippine Embassy in Nairobi, the DFA said the Filipino Federation in Uganda Ltd. (FFUL) said no Filipino was killed or injured. But the DFA said in its website the Embassy continues to monitor the situation in Uganda. There are around 200 Filipinos there, the DFA said. The incidents occurred in two places where a large number of people were watching the finals of the 2010 FIFA World Cup via satellite held in South Africa. Initial reports showed the first bomb exploded at 10:55 p.m. in the Ethiopian Village restaurant frequented by foreigners and expatriates. The second explosion happened 20 minutes later as two bombs exploded at the Lugogo Rugby Club. At least 76 casualties have already been reported, with the number expected to rise. Security was heightened in Uganda and Kenya, especially near the border points. â LBG/RSJ, GMANews.TV
