Metro Manila police conduct random paraffin tests among ranks
The police on Monday conducted random paraffin tests to determine if there were police personnel who fired their guns indiscriminately to welcome the New Year. In Manila, the Manila Police District (MPD) removed the tape used to seal the policemen's service firearms, radio dzBB's Carlo Mateo reported. At least one stray bullet had hit the press office at MPD headquarters before dawn on Sunday, the dzBB report added. In southern Metro Manila, meanwhile, the Southern Police District said it would also conduct random paraffin tests to see who fired his or her weapon. Earlier, Interior Secretary Jesse Robredo said those found to have fired their weapons to welcome the New Year will have to explain their actions. "Kung may paliwanag bakit siguro, di dapat pigilin nila lalo kung parte ng gawain. Kung walang malinaw na paliwanag pananagutin natin siya," Robredo said in an interview on dzBB earlier. - VVP, GMA News
