FilAm journalist binigyan ng Emmy award sa US

Bagamat ipinanganak at lumaki sa Miami, Florida USA si Judy Echavez, ipinagmamalaki niya kanyang lahing Pinoy. Isang broadcast journalist sa US si Judy pero hindi siya basta-basta mamamahayag-- isa siyang mahusay at hinahangaang miyembro ng media sa Amerika. Katunayan, nitong Disyembre ay tumanggap siya ng Emmy award mula sa National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. Ang parangal kay Judy mula sa 2006 Suncoast Regional Emmy Awards Program para sa kategorya ng Public/Current/Community Affairs. Kasama ni Judy na tumanggap ng parangal ay ang kanyang kasamahang producer sa programang “ Miami 9-1-1 Police at Fire Rescue" na si Cesar Nuñez. Ang ama ni Judy na si Paul ay mula sa Bronx, New York , samantalang tubong Mindanao ang kanyang butihing ina na si Remedios. Sa St. Thomas University sa Miami nagtapos ng pag-aaral si Judy sa kursong Biology and Communications. Kumuha rin siya ng kursong journalism sa Florida International University at ngayon nga ay 15 taon na siya sa broadcast industry sa US. Panganib sa Trabaho Sa loob ng 15-taon sa kanyang propesyon, minsan na rin nalagay sa panganib ang buhay ni Judy nang habulin niya ang isang ipo-ipo sa Bahamas at sumama na rin siya sa paghuli ng isang nakawalang buwaya. “I was in the Bahamas to cover Hurricane Francis and got injured on the job. I got hit with flying debris and broke some ribs, and I can tell you that it was pretty surreal," kuwento niya sa Philippine News. “But that was a turning point in my life and career to realize that people who cover these types of jobs do dangerous work. I realized that I really needed to begin working on my career in a sense of being able to make a difference in the lives of others. Two years after an incident that nearly cost me my life, I have gotten involved in a television program that has the potential to save some lives," dagdag ni Judy. Tulad sa Pilipinas, karaniwan din sa Florida ang pagmamaneho ng lasing at gumagamit ng cellphone. “The program is about helping people drive safer on the roadways. It also cautions viewers on the crazy drivers that we have in South Florida : those who experience road rage, talk on the phone while driving, those who drive while intoxicated. There’s a range of emotions that take place in the program, whether involving the drivers or some of the victims of bad driving," aniya. Proud Pinay Noong Agosto ay nagbakasyon sa Pilipinas sa Judy sa Cagayan de Oro para hasain na rin ang kanyang pagsasalita ng Filipino. At sa tuwing uuwi, marami siyang bagay na natutunan sa bansang pinagmulan ng kanyang ina. At dahil bahagi na ng kanyang buhay ang paggawa ng dokumentaryo, lagi siyang may bitbit na camera. Sa kanyang pag-oobserba napuna niya na malaki ang kaibahan ng telebisyon sa Pilipinas kompara sa US. “I’ve always wanted to produce and host a show in the Philippines because I would like to reach out to the public there, plus the country is so beautiful. There are so many talented people there," masayang kuwento ni Judy.
