Typhoon Ompong exits PAR; Pinoys in Japan cautioned anew
Typhoon Ompong (international codename Vongfong) exited the Philippine Area of Responsibility at noon Saturday and is now heading for Japan.
Philippine officials in Japan reminded Filipinos there to take precautions against bad weather conditions to be caused by Vongfong.
Citing data from state weather agency PAGASA, dzBB radio tweeted the typhoon exited the PAR at noon.
While it was still inside the PAR, Vongfong/Ompong enhanced the northeasterly to northwesterly winds over the seaboards of Northern Luzon and the westerly to southwesterly winds over the eastern seaboard of Central and Southern Luzon and of Visayas.
This resulted in rough to very rough sea conditions over these areas, PAGASA said.
Meanwhile, the Philippine embassy in Tokyo reminded Filipinos in Japan to take precautions against Vongfong, which is expected to pass through several areas of Japan in the coming days. It said the typhoon may hit Hokkaido on Oct. 15.
"Muling pinapayuhan ang lahat na maghanda, maging mapagmatyag sa dadaanan at pananalasa ng bagyo, at makinig sa mga ulat at mga babala ng lokal at nasyonal na pamahalaan," it said.
The embassy also left emergency hotlines including:
Philippine Consulate General, Osaka: 090-4036-7984
Philippine Honorary Consulate General, Naha City, Okinawa: 098-892-5486
