Cebu firm to market clothing line abroad
SunStar: After establishing its mark in the local retail industry, a Cebuano-grown brand is mulling plans to enter the international market. Loalde, which sells sophisticated apparel, plans to open branches in Malaysia and Singapore in the next couple of months, said Jay Aldeguer, president of the Aldeguer Group of Companies (AGC). He also said that the company is currently under negotiations with potential partners for a possible franchise operation. Success stories in franchising will be discussed during the 1st Cebu Regional Retail and Franchise Conference, which will open today April 24) and will end tomorrow with discussions on franchising. Philippine Franchise Association (PRA) president Robert Trota of Maxâs Restaurant will discuss opportunities in franchising at The Parklane Hotel, Cebu City. Local retailers organized recently to drive Cebuâs retail industry, which is seen as an economic driver. Aldeguer, who is the president of PRA-Cebu, said the local retail industry, particularly the ready-to-wear products, will be promising in the next few years since the buying preferences of Filipino and Cebuanos, in particular, have changed. Sophisticated Because of this, AGC plans to open more Loalde shops in Metro Manila, aside from its plan to venture into the overseas market. Aldeguer said the market has grown to be sophisticated despite the existence of cheap products and the growing popularity of âukay-ukay." âEven people buying used clothing or âukay-ukayâ can be potential customers," he said, adding Filipinos in the long run will eventually be looking for quality clothing. Aldeguer has attributed the increasing purchasing power of Filipinos is brought about by the healthy investments in business process outsour-cing, as well as other employment and entrepreneurial opportunities, that make the retail industry very dynamic. AGC is also the mother company of other apparel brands, such as Island Souvenirs, USA Sports and Bisaya Ispisyal, among others. Like its sister company, Island Souvenirs, which has outlets in the USA and Saipan, among others, Loalde is also starting to open its doors to the international market. Recognition Since the brand has gained recognition nationwide, there is no reason why it will not be an international success, Aldeguer said. Loalde has currently two boutiques each in Cebu, Bacolod, Iloilo and Davao City and one each in Cagayan de Oro City and in Makati. The company just opened its 10th outlet at the SM Supermall in Bacolod City.
