Ogie, Jaya join 15th annual Filipino Fiesta in Hawai'i on May 12


Songwriter and singer Ogie Alcasid and Queen of Soul Jaya are the GMA PINOY TV artists to grace the 15th Annual Filipino Fiesta in Hawai'i. The Filipino Fiesta, founded in 1993 to promote awareness of the Filipino culture, is the state’s largest annual Filipino community celebration. The spectacular event will have food, entertainment and crafts from the diverse regions of the Philippines exhibiting the beauty and uniqueness of the Filipino culture. Visitors of the day long Fiesta can sample authentic Filipino food from 15 restaurants like Max’s, Loulen’s and Nayong Filipino. The Regional Village will have exhibits of Philippine arts and crafts while business opportunities locally and the Philippines will be prominently displayed at the Business tent. Free medical consultations will be given by the Bayanihan Clinic Without Walls, the Philippine Medical Association of Hawai'i and the Hawaii Filipino Health Care at the Community Health Fair while traditional Filipino games and inflated bouncers for the children and the kids at heart are readily available at the Kiddy Village for them to enjoy. Aside from the two world-class GMA PINOY TV stars, Ogie and Jaya, the Fiesta committee has put together local artists and performers to entertain the crowd at the Kapiolani Park Bandstand. The Hawaiian artists scheduled to appear are the Royal Hawaiian Band, the official city band founded by King Kalakaua in the 1800s, Kristian Lei of the Miss Saigon German edition with her Broadway Babies, Bandalan Doce Pares Eskrima, the Philippine Cultural Group, Marlene Baldueza, Pinoy Entertainers, Ernie Bautista and Ping Lopez, Randy Valencia, For Real Kine, Temple Valley, Young Pinoys and Pinays, Kalayaan International Dance Troupe, and Janeele. The Fiesta is again presented by the Filipino Community Center (FilCom), the largest Filipino community center in the United States and outside the Philippines, in cooperation with Honolulu Filipino Junior Chamber of Commerce. Hawai'ian Tel, Hawaii Tourism Authority, Western Union and Bank of Hawaii are this year’s Fiesta major sponsors. The 15th Annual Filipino Fiesta, whose goal is to celebrate the Filipino culture through food, music, dances and crafts in Hawaii, will be on Saturday, May 12, 2007 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. at the Kapiolani Park. An estimated 25,000 visitors and locals are expected to attend.
