Pinay artist holds solo exhibit in Toronto
Rocille Lampitoc, a Filipino artist, has opened a one-woman art exhibit entitled, âFaces, Phases and Placers," at the Philippine consulate in Toronto, Canada on May 4. It will run until May 25. She comes from a family of artists. Her father, Rol Lampitoc, is a well-known Filipino-Canadian painter based in Toronto, according to Philippine Consul General Alejandro Mosquera. Before Rocille left the Philippine in 1972, she was already âlife drawing" with known painters such as Ocampo, Roces and Joya, who, along with her father, belonged to the original âSaturday Group" that made an impact on the Philippine art scene. The combination of her art and fashion background has influenced Rocilleâs works on display at the Toronto exhibit, the consul general said. In 1997, Rocille had her first solo show sponsored by the Scarborough City Council and the City of Scarborough Recreation, Parks and Culture. To date, she has launched and participated in 22 shows. Rocille spent a year of fashion studies at Long Beach City College in 1981 and finished a formal course on fashion design at Sheridan College in 1985. Consul General Mosquera said Rocille has done an illustration class at Ontario College of Art and Life Drawing at Central Technical School in 2006. Rocelle is a member of the Philippine Artist Group - Canada. Art lovers, enthusiasts and patrons have been invited to view and experience Rocille's depiction of âFaces, Phases and Places," which runs until May 25, 2007. - GMANews.TV
