Biggest gathering of Fil-Am bands in NY


For two nights, New York City will witness the biggest gathering of Filipino-American artists in celebration of the first anniversary of an online music magazine advocating the hybrid of east-west music in the American scene. From August 31 to September 1, 19 bands from the US and Canada will jam together under one roof in the anniversary of the premiere Filipino-American online music magazine, Poptimes. The first night of the celebration will be held at Club Midway, along 25th Avenue B, NYC, and will feature the music of Blue Mellon Pop from New York; Binky Bianca, triCKbag, Sodapop Suicide, The Happy Analogues, and Then Again from New Jersey; These Curious Pleasures (from Massachusetts; Stella's Notch from California; and The 3rd Element from Maryland. Since its inception in May 2006, it has interviewed big-named Philippine-based artists like, Barbie Almalbis, Sandwich, Perf De Castro, and Rivermaya. Aside from being an online magazine, Poptimes has attracted 400 members, called ‘Poptimers,’ composed of artists and music aficionados not only from the US and Canada but also from the Philippines. On its first year, it has also released a second version of its website which will allows artists, fans and producers to post their own videos, articles, music and other promotional stuff on the website. It also enables bands to sell their merchandise through its online store – free of charge. Meanwhile, the Saturday show at The Delancey, 168 Delancey Street , NYC, will showcase Syncits, The Kuwagos, Bleud, and Non Revs from New Jersey; ACI9 and Bagwis from Illinois; Qwadra from New York; P.I. from Washington D.C., Circled Sin from Maryland; and Noizytoyz from Toronto, Canada. Tickets will only be available for $20 at the said venues which will be good for both shows. The Poptimes Magazine First Anniversary Rock Show is strictly for fans 21 and over.
