Pinoy couple loses fight to stay in England
A Filipino couple has lost the fight to stay in England and had been deported to the Philippines. Lancashire Evening Post reported on Tuesday that Dennis and Nanette Gonzalez were forced to take a flight from Manchester airport last Sunday after they were fingerprinted at an immigration center in Liverpool. Dennis worked as a chef at Fishergate restaurant Moka and worked there until his work visa expired. He was popular among his employers. The Gonzalez couple lived in Bairstow Street, Avenham in Preston and had thought they would settle there for good. But the New UK policy of not renewing work visas of migrant workers from non-European Union countries dashed the coupleâs hopes for a future there with their 14-month-old daughter Danette, who was born at the Royal Preston Hospital. The coupleâs first daughter, Dennette, died of a disease in Preston. The LEP report said neither Dennis nor Nanette had claimed benefit. "The whole process was very, very traumatic for them. Just four weeks ago they thought they were going to make a life in Preston. It was a whirlwind experience. But they also have great resilience and strong faith," said Councilor Michael Lavalette, a town center ward who promised to support any application the couple would have to return to UK. Hundreds of other Filipino workers in the United Kingdom, mostly experienced caregivers, are facing deportation following the expiration of their work visas. England has adopted a policy that discourages employment of workers from non-EU member states. - GMANews.TV
