Scholarship grants await 100 OFW dependents
Some 100 scholarship grant slots are available for qualified dependents of overseas Filipino workers who are members of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration, an official of OWWA announced over the weekend. Ma. Evangeline V. Filamor, OWWA Region 8 director, said the deadline for applications for the School Year 2008-2009 scholarship grant, covering any four or five-year course, will be on October 31, 2007. She said applicants must be high school graduates, 21 years old or younger, Filipino citizens and must be in good health. Those qualified to apply are children of married OWWA-member OFWs or brother or sister of unmarried OFWs, she added. Applicants must submit to OWWA regional office the following: Accomplished application forms (two sets) including Forms 2 and 3; two copies â1x1" ID pictures; proof of relationship to OWWA-member OFW; copy of birth certificate of applicant; Form of 137 or transcript of records; and proof of OWWA membership such as official receipt of contribution and E-Receipt, or certification from the OWWA Membership Processing Center. If the applicant is a brother or sister of an OFW member, he or she must include in the requirements the birth certificate of the OFW certified by the local civil registrar. Filamor said that applicants must pass the qualifying examinations, particularly the Department of Science and Technology National Examination and the College Admission Test of the school where they intend to enroll. The scholarship grant is only provided once and is non transferable. The scholar must not be a recipient of other scholarship grants. Qualified applicants are selected and ranked according to their performance in qualifying exams. The OWWA scholarship committee will select and recommend the scholars for approval by the OWWA administrator. For inquiries, applicants may proceed to the nearest OWWA regional office. - GMANews.TV
