Police sure men in CCTV footage were Atio Castillo, Aegis Juris fratmen
The Manila Police District is certain that hazing victim Horacio Castillo, suspect John Paul Solano, and other members of Aegis Juris fraternity were the uniformed students caught on CCTV camera prior to Castillo's death.
"Verified no. Vinerify muna natin 'yan [footage] bago natin inilabas no... Meron mang magdidispute nung ating CCTV footage na inilabas, well they should come out in the open," MPD spokesman Erwin Margarejo told GMA News Online in a phone interview.
Margarejo's assurance came after netizens pointed out that the students in the video did not seem to be University of Santo Tomas (UST) Faculty of Civil Law students.
Some said that those were students of the UST College of Commerce and Business Administration because of their uniform.
Commerce students in UST wear yellow long sleeves with neck tie and black pants, while Civil Law students wear white polo barong and black pants.
But Margarejo insisted that the uniform a person wears does not immediately establish his or her identity.
"A uniform is not a basis. Anyone can wear a uniform na para makapasok sa isang school... ang basis kasi natin diyan the sources kung saan... verified sources, kung saan nila nakita 'yung mga evidence na 'yan," he added.
"I'm challenging everyone to come out if that's not John Paul Solano," Margarejo said. — MDM, GMA News
