Alioden D. Dalaig

Atty. Alioden D. Dalaig, 63, director of the Commission of Elections Law Department, was killed in an ambush on the night of November 10. Atty. Dalaig started working in Comelec as a legal assistant more than 30 years ago. Comelec Spokesperson James Jimenez described Dalaig as "a truly fearsome legal warrior," and "every Comelec employee’s friend." ISSUES

• Lintang Bedol's case. As head of Comelec's law department, it was Dalaig who issued a warrant of arrest for Bedol, who was found guilty of contempt for repeatedly failing to attend hearings over poll irregularities in the May election in Maguindanao.
• Hello Garci. Dalaig was mentioned in the "Hello Garci" tape, which refers to the alleged wiretapped conversations where vote rigging in the 2004 elections was discussed by, among others, a woman presumed to be President Arroyo and man presumed to be Comelec Commissioner Virgilio Garcillano.
• 'Candidate' for commissioner
Dalaig was one of those reportedly being considered for a commissioner's post at the poll body.
