2 Pinay sex slaves escape from Malaysian employer

Two Filipino women promised lucrative jobs in Malaysia but ended up in a bar managed to escape from their employer, a Malaysian newspaper reported Wednesday. Online news site Malaysian daily The Star said the two were locked up in a pub and forced to allow clients to fondle them. "It was like a nightmare for us and when we had the opportunity, we escaped," said one of the girls nicknamed Florence. She said they used a spare key and escaped through the back door when the "boss" went out, but she said there were some 50 other girls trapped inside the pub. "We pity the other Filipinos as we were told that the boss had about 50 girls working for him," said the other woman nicknamed Cathyrin. The Star report said police detained a man in his 40s and rescued two other Filipino women from his house in Taman Sentosa on Sunday. It added a Philippine embassy official said that the number of Filipinos conned into Malaysia has been rising in recent months. The official urged Filipinos needing assistance to contact their 24-hour duty officer at 017-3475487. Florence and Cathyrin, aged 26 and 28, sought the assistance of Johor MCA Public Complaints and Services Bureau deputy chief Rodney Soon after escaping. Florence said she was approached by an agent in Manila promising a good paying job in Malaysia. She said she was told to pay P10,000 to get the job. She said the recruiter told her she could earn as much as P30,000 a month as a waitress in a restaurant. She said she met Cathyrin on her flight to Malaysia. She said they arrived at Kuala Lumpur International Aiport before being driven to Johor on Dec. 12. "We reached Johor Baru at about 10 a.m. and were asked to start work at about 3 p.m.," she said, adding that they were required to sell about seven glasses of liquor per customer to get a commission. Florence said that when they argued, the "boss" told them they still owed him P30,000 for the air ticket, food and accommodation in Malaysia. Soon said he had already informed the police and would be sending the women to Kuala Lumpur to be handed over to the Philippines embassy. - GMANews.TV
