PNP: Around 5,000 errant cops dismissed from service since July 2016

The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Wednesday said around 5,000 cops have been relieved from the service from July 2016 to December 2021 over their abuses and illicit activities.

In a statement, the PNP added that 20,000 personnel faced penalties, mostly suspension.

Out of the 37,124 administrative cases involving police personnel from July 2016 to January 12, 2022, the PNP said 35,297 cases were already closed.

The PNP noted that the remaining unresolved cases are still up for further investigation and being handled with due process.

“It is with deep sadness to know that the PNP is stained with erring cops. These undesirable members of the organization must face the consequences of their actions. But their demeanor must not be construed as a system bloodline,” PNP chief Police General Dionardo Carlos said.

He encouraged their personnel to keep their morale high and take the opportunity to prove their worth as efficient and credible law enforcers.

“Remember what you’re here for. Go back to your core. You are not only trained with the appropriate skills, but you are embedded with the values that keep you grounded and upright,” he said. — Joviland Rita/RSJ, GMA News
