MMDA exec: NCAP CCTVs will be used for traffic management
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said Thursday that it will use the CCTVs for the no-contact apprehension policy (NCAP) to monitor traffic management activities, especially during the Christmas season.
Interviewed on GMA News’ Balitanghali, MMDA spokesperson Atty. Cris Saruca Jr. said that CCTVs will help them improve the traffic situation in Metro Manila.
“’Yung mga CCTVs na noon ay ginagamit sa NCAP ay gagamitin namin para mapaganda ang monitoring and traffic management. Ito ay magiging tool para malaman natin kung saan mas maraming deployment ng traffic enforcers, ma-identify ang may choke points, saan nagkakaroon ng vehicular accidents, at kung saan may baha,” Saruca said.
(We will use the CCTVs that were used in NCAP to improve monitoring and traffic management. This will be a tool for us to know where more traffic enforcers are needed, identify choke points, location of vehicular accidents, and flooded roads.)
On Tuesday, the Supreme Court (SC) issued a temporary restraining order (TRO) against the implementation NCAP, in favor of the petition from several transport groups in Manila, Quezon City, Valenzuela, Muntinlupa, and Parañaque.
It said that effective immediately, any apprehensions through the NCAP programs and ordinances related to the policy shall be prohibited until further orders from the court.
It also enjoined the Land Transportation Office (LTO) and all parties acting on its behalf from giving out motorist information to all local government units, cities, and municipalities enforcing the NCAP programs and ordinances.
Earlier, the MMDA said more traffic enforcers will be deployed in areas covered by the NCAP following the TRO against its implementation.
The agency also said that it will consult with the Office of the Solicitor General (OSG) if they can intervene with the petition against NCAP's implementation pending a final resolution from the SC. —LBG, GMA News
