Live-in partner admits killing woman found in Binangonan canal

The live-in partner of a 31-year old woman whose body was found in a water duct in Binangonan, Rizal has confessed to killing her, according to John Consulta's 24 Oras report

In an extra-judicial confession and sworn statement before the  Antipolo City Prosecutor’s Office, suspect Roceller Lanon admitted to authorities that he killed Janiclear Cahilig during a fight in the house where they were residing.

"Matinding selos po. Isa sa mga katrabaho niya po. ‘Di ko naman po gusto yung nangyari, nabigla lang po ako," Lanon said.

(I was extremely jealous with one of her co-workers. I  didn’t intend for this to happen, I was overcome by jealousy.)

"Nagkaroon sila ng altercation, verbal, nauwi sa physical, hinampas ng bote ang biktima, nang bumagsak, unti unting sinakal. Pinasok sa kwarto kaya di nakita yung body," said Provincial Director Police Colonel Felipe Maraggun of the Rizal Police.

(They had a verbal altercation that turned physical. The victim was hit with a bottle and when she fell, she was strangled to death. The suspect hid her body inside a room.)

Lanon admitted to dumping Cahilig’s body in an isolated grassy area where it was later found in a canal along Quarry Road around 7 a.m. on February 13.

"Sa pamilya po ng asawa ko sana mapatawad ninyo ako. Pagsisihan ko po ang lahat," Lanon said.

(To my partner's family, I hope you can forgive me. I am sorry for everything.)

According to the victim's relatives, they have always been suspicious of the suspect.

"Huli po naming nakita doon si ate—impossible umalis siya kasi nasa amin ang wallet niya at cellphone po. Makulong talaga siya at pagbayaran niya ang walang hiyang ginawa niya," said the victim's relative.

(We last saw my sister at their place. It's impossible for her to leave because we have her wallet and cell phone. He should really go to jail and pay for what he did.)

Police said they have an air-tight murder case against Lanon.—Sherylin Untalan/RF, GMA Integrated News
