DFA: Probe on for death of Pinay OFW in HK
MANILA, Philippines â The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) confirmed on Friday the death of a Filipina domestic helper who was found floating in waters off Tung Chung island in Hong Kong last week and asked for further investigation in the case. DFA spokesperson Claro Cristobal said Philippine consul-general in Hong Kong Alejandrino Vicente identified the victim as Vicenta Flores, 32, of Batangas. Cristobal said the victim's sister is now in Hong Kong under the care of the consulate. Earlier reports said Flores, a resident of Discovery Bay (DB) resort, was wearing only pajamas when she was fished out of the water on April 11. Cristobal said Vicente has already asked the Hong Kong police to conduct an autopsy on the victim, and to further investigate the case. The consulate has also referred potential witnesses to give statements to the police. The official said Flores' employer has offered assistance for the repatriation of the victim's remains after authorities complete their investigation. Reports said that Flores's face was covered with bruises, allegedly after falling on rocks before she drowned. Flores had been working for her employers in Hong Kong for 12 years. Shortly after her body was found, her employers were contacted but they failed to identify it as that of their missing maid. It was only on Apr. 15 that Floresâ identity was confirmed by an aunt who also works in Hong Kong. - GMANews.TV
