Boying Remulla hopes Sara Duterte will attend DOJ probe over kill remark

Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla on Thursday expressed hope that Vice President Sara Duterte will attend the preliminary investigation into the complaint filed against her before the Department of Justice over her kill remark against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and others.

The preliminary investigation on the inciting to sedition and grave threats complaint will take place at the DOJ on Friday, May 9.

“I hope she attends kasi karapatan niya ‘yun. It’s her right. Dapat lang talaga ‘yung right niya gamitin niya,” Remulla said in an ambush interview.

(I hope she attends because that is her right. She should really exercise that right.)

Under the procedure, however, he said that Duterte is not mandated to appear.

Duterte previously said that she will attend the preliminary investigation as she needs to take an oath when filing her counter affidavit.

In an online press briefing in 2024, Duterte said that she ordered someone to kill Marcos, First Lady Liza Araneta, and Speaker Martin Romualdez if an alleged plot against her succeeds.

Duterte later on clarified that her “assassination” statement was not a threat, saying she only highlighted the alleged threat to her security.

She also said her remarks were “maliciously taken out of logical context.”

Meanwhile, Prosecutor General Richard Fadullon said the Office of the Vice President has yet to coordinate with his office regarding security concerns.

“Sa office namin wala. I don’t know if there was any coordination made with the investigating prosecutor,” Fadullon said. —AOL, GMA Integrated News
