Palace: Dec. 2 non-working day in Pasay
Friday, December 2, will be a special non-working day in Pasay City as it marks its 148th Foundation Day, Malacañang said Monday. In Proclamation 294 signed by Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa Jr., the Palace said this would allow Pasay City residents to celebrate the city's founding. "It is but fitting and proper that the people of the City of Pasay be given full opportunity to participate in and celebrate the occasion with appropriate ceremonies," Ochoa said. Pasay became a pueblo (town) on December 2, 1863 upon the recommendation of Archbishop Gregorio Martinez of Sta. Cruz. It is the third smallest political subdivision in Metro Manila, and is adjacent to Manila and is bounded by Parañaque, Makati and Taguig cities. The city has a total land area of 18.50 square km. Of this, 9.5 square km is occupied by the Civil Aeronautics Administration (CAA) complex, which include the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) and the Villamor Air Base and the rest of the reclamation area with 4 square km. — KBK, GMA News
