Pasay school suspends classes due to foul smell

Classes at a public high school in Pasay City were suspended on Monday morning after some students experienced nausea and vomiting due to a foul smell from a still unidentified source.

Marilou Bacordo, an employee of the Kalayaan National High School, said morning shift students were sent home while afternoon shift students were advised not to go to school anymore due to the foul smell.

“Kaninang umaga pa lang during the flag-raising ceremony, sobrang nangamoy talaga. ‘Yung ibang estudyante, nasusuka na at nahihilo,” Bacordo said in a phone interview.

Although the foul smell is already gone, city engineering and health officials are already in the school to determine its source, she added.

Bacordo said some residents suspect that the strong chemical smell came from a nearby tobacco factory or from the Villamor Air Base.

Hindi pa po namin alam ‘yung pinanggalingan pero iniisip po ng ibang residente rito, baka galing sa factory or doon sa airport,” she said. — RSJ, GMA News
