34 hurt in bus accident at Alabang viaduct
At least 34 people were reported injured after a provincial bus they were riding went out of control and crashed at the Alabang Viaduct in Muntinlupa City Monday afternoon.
Two of the passengers suffered serious injuries after they were thrown out of the bus, according to a report on dzBB radio early Tuesday.
Police took into custody the driver of the JAC Liner bus (PXU-314), initially identified as Fernando Aquino.
Aquino denied he was speeding at the time of the accident. He blamed the slippery road, saying the bus went out of control when he tried to brake.
The report said the bus firm's management promised to shoulder the hospitalization expenses of the injured passengers.
A separate report by dzBB's Mao dela Cruz Monday night said the bus was heading for Biñan in Laguna when a right rear tire exploded and the bus went out of control.
One of the passengers, initially identified as Ramil Lambisco, jumped off the bus while it was swerving and fell off the viaduct, landing on the East Service Road.
Of the injured passengers, 23 were brought to the Muntinlupa General Hospital, and seven to the Asian Hospital and Medical Center.
The incident snarled traffic in the area up to near Bicutan and Sucat, the report said. –KG, GMA News
