Grand Central mall fire still not out — firefighters

(Updated 12:00 a.m.) Nearly 24 hours after it started, the fire at the Ever Gotesco Grand Central was still raging as of 9:20 p.m. Saturday, radio dzBB's Rodil Vega reported.  By 11:37 p.m. firefighters said the fire was under control.

In its update before noon, volunteer firefighter group TXTFire had said the fire was still at Task Force Delta. Portions of 10th Avenue remained closed to traffic to make way for fire trucks and rescue vehicles.

The report said at least 21 firefighters had sustained injuries, ranging from cuts to first-degree burns.

Bureau of Fire Protection officer-in-charge Chief Superintendent Samuel Perez said this weekend's fire is similar to one that destroyed a mall in the Baclaran area in January 2008.
