Caloocan mall fire rekindled
A fire that razed a mall in Caloocan City for more than three days since last weekend caused a brief scare after it was rekindled briefly Wednesday night.
The Bureau of Fire Protection in Caloocan said the fire rekindled at about 8:26 p.m. but firefighters put it out after an hour, radio dzBB reported early Thursday.
No one was initially reported injured in the rekindled fire at the Ever Gotesco Grand Central Mall, even as smoke was seen coming out of the building's fifth level.
Volunteer firefighter group TXTFire said the rekindling occurred at the back area of the mall.
The fire at the mall started before 11 p.m. last March 16 and raged on for more than three days. It was declared out last Tuesday morning.
During the weekend, smoke from the fire forced the Light Rail Transit Authority to bypass the LRT Line 1's Monumento station.
At least 17 people, most of them firefighters, sustained injuries from the fire.
The Department of Interior and Local Government had ordered a full investigation into the cause of the fire, with an inter-agency task force given 45 days to finish the probe. –KG, GMA News
