1 hurt, 14 families homeless in QC, Mandaluyong fires
A doctor was reported seriously injured while 14 families lost their homes in three fires that hit Mandaluyong and Quezon Cities from Monday evening to early Tuesday, on the last week of Fire Prevention Month.
In Quezon City, a doctor was injured in a fire that hit a house at 80 Angelo Street in the La Loma district Monday evening, radio dzBB reported early Tuesday.
The report said the doctor, initially identified as Grace Martinez, suffered burns in the arms and different parts of the body.
A vehicle was also damaged in the fire, which started at 6:18 p.m. and reached the third alarm before firefighters put it out at 7:20 p.m.
In Mandaluyong City, 14 families lost their homes after a fire believed caused by an electrical short circuit razed seven houses in Daang Bakal in Mandaluyong City.
The fire reportedly started at a unit occupied by one Oscar Malloca at 5:56 p.m. and was put out at 7:05 p.m.
No one was initially reported injured although some P500,000 in property was destroyed in the fire in Mandaluyong City.
Meanwhile, a taxi burst into flames before dawn Tuesday at the corner of Scout Tobias and Timog Avenue in Quezon City.
The driver of the taxi (TXP-283), Dennis Sto. Domingo, said he even borrowed a fire extinguisher from a nearby establishment but could not put out the fire. –KG, GMA News
