MMDA traffic constables start wearing summer outfits
To cope with the fierce summer heat, the Metropolitan Manila Develompent Authority has started making short pants, rubber shoes and protective headgear part of the uniforms of its traffic constables.
MMDA Chairman Francis Tolentino said this was part of the constables' "Type C" uniform, which also include a blue regular uniform with necktie.
But Tolentino also noted this has a double purpose - to give the constables the image of Boy Scouts who are always fit and ready to provide assistance.
"We want to promote the spirit of fitness and the culture of public assistance inculcated in organizations like the Boy Scouts," he said in an article posted on the MMDA website Monday.
Tolentino also noted this measure practiced by the Hong Kong traffic police.
The summer uniform will be used until May 27, the MMDA added.
On the other hand, constables at the night or graveyard shift "Task Force Takip Silim" will have a similar uniform, but will wear a standard blue shirt with collar and cap. — RSJ, GMA News
