After exodus to provinces, Visita Iglesia, traffic light on EDSA
Less than 24 hours after the mad rush to the provinces and buildup near churches visited by pilgrims as part of their Visita Iglesia ended Thursday, traffic was light on Epifanio delos Santos Avenue (EDSA) early morning of Good Friday. A photo posted on the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority's Twitter account showed few vehicles at EDSA as of 6 a.m. The photo included shots of light traffic at portions of EDSA at Roxas, Taft Rotonda, Magallanes Skyway, Buendia flyover, Orense, Reliance, White Plains, Regalia and Balintawak. In a separate tweet, the MMDA also reminded motorists the number coding scheme has been lifted for Friday and for Monday, Araw ng Kagitingan. Friday's light traffic was in contrast to the moderate to heavy traffic along some parts of EDSA due to the yearly exodus to the provinces. Last Thursday afternoon and evening, the MMDA noted heavy traffic in some areas of Metro Manila due to the Visita Iglesia, a tradition among Catholics of visiting seven churches during Lent. It noted heavy traffic near the C-5 area due to the Visita Iglesia at Pio Church. A similar buildup at 6 p.m. Thursday was also noted near the Baclaran church due to the Visita Iglesia. — LBG,GMA News
