Aquino appoints 5 new Makati judges


President Benigno Aquino III has appointed five new judges to the lower courts in Makati City, Deputy Presidential Spokesperson Abigail Valte announced Wednesday. A Malacañang statement on Thursday said the five included:

  • Judge Andres Soriano to the Makati Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 148;
  • Judge Ronald Moreno as presiding judge of the Makati RTC Branch 147;
  • Judge Liza Marie Picardal-Tecson to the Makati RTC Branch 144;
  • Judge Ethel Mercado-Gutay as presiding judge of Makati Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 137; and
  • Judge Bonifacio Pascua to the Makati RTC Branch 56.
Soriano finished his Bachelor of Laws degree from the Ateneo de Manila University in 1983 and was admitted to the Bar a year later. Before his appointment, Soriano has been the judge of Malolos (Bulacan) Regional Trial Court since 1998. Moreno graduated in 1995 with a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Santo Tomas and was admitted to the Bar in 1996. Prior to his appointment, Moreno has been executive judge of Makati Metropolitan Trial Court (MeTC) since 2009. Picardal-Tecson is a law graduate of the University of San Carlos in 1996 and was admitted to the Bar the following year. Before being appointed, she has been judge of the Hagonoy (Bulacan) Municipal Trial Court since 2006. Mercado-Gutay holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from the Ateneo de Manila University, graduating in 1998 and was admitted to the Bar in 1999. She was Acting Presiding Judge of the Muntinlupa Metropolitan Trial Court from 2010 until her appointment. Pascua finished his Bachelor of Laws degree from the Far Eastern University in 1995 and was admitted to the Bar in 1999. Sinc 2006, he served as presiding judge of the Pasay Metropolitan Trial Court. –KG, GMA News
