Court sentences carjack gang leader Raymond Dominguez up to 30 years in prison


A Bulacan court on Tuesday sentenced suspected carjack gang leader Raymond Dominguez to up to 30 years in jail after finding him guilty for a 2010 carjacking case.
 
A report by radio dzBB said Malolos Regional Trial Court Branch 84 Judge Wilfredo Nieves sentenced Dominguez to a minimum of 17 years and four months to a maximum of 30 years in jail for the crime.
 
Nieves also ordered Dominguez transferred immediately to the national penitentiary in Muntinlupa City.
 
Dominguez's lawyers were quoted in the report as saying that they will appeal the conviction, but added the order to transfer their client to Muntinlupa City was "favorable" to Dominguez it will offer him sufficient security.
 
Dominguez also faces charges for other high-profile incidents including the carjack-murder of car dealer Venson Evangelista last year.
 
The dzBB report said Dominguez appeared relaxed in the courtroom when the judge's decision was read. With him was his girlfriend, actress Katrina Paula. Palace welcomes decision
 
In Malacañang, presidential spokesman Edwin Lacierda welcomed the conviction, saying the decision was handed down with "impartiality and swiftness, taking only a year and four months to resolve the case."
 
"We congratulate Public Prosecutor Maureen Abad Moises for her capable handling of the case. Its resolution proves that with honest and committed public servants, our judicial system can work effectively toward fulfilling its duties to the public," Lacierda said in a statement. — RSJ, GMA News
