April 21 a special nonworking day in Malabon

Saturday, April 21, will be a special non-working day in Malabon City as it marks the 11th anniversary of the day it became a city.

President Benigno Aquino III made the declaration via Proclamation No. 366 signed by Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa Jr. last April 17.

"The Chief Executive issued the declaration to give the people of Malabon the full opportunity to celebrate and participate in the occasion with appropriate ceremonies," a Malacañang statement said.

President Gloria Arroyo signed into law Republic Act No. 9019 on March 5, 2001, converting Malabon from a town into a highly urbanized city.

The law was ratified on April 21, 2001 after a plebiscite was held. –KG, GMA News
