Silverio compound residents warned of troublemakers infiltrating their ranks

In the wake of the violence that killed at least one person and injured 39 others, the Philippine National Police appealed to residents of Silverio Compound in Parañaque City to be wary of groups that may try to incite violence.

New PNP spokesman Senior Superintendent Generoso Cerbo Jr. said all sides should stay cool and exercise maximum tolerance, radio dzBB's Glen Juego reported.

Cerbo was quoted in the report as appealing to residents to keep their cool and verify where supposed information about the demolition of their homes is coming from.

The dzBB report noted the residents were angered Monday when they were told their houses would be demolished to make way for a development project by a sister company of a mall chain.

But the mall chain had denied the claim, even as police said the demolition scheduled for Monday was only for stalls at a flea market and not the residents' houses.

The dzBB report also quoted Cerbo as maintaining the violence did not start with the police team securing the demolition workers at Monday's incident.

The Southern Police District has formed a task force to look into the incident, including the possibility of abuses and lapses by the police personnel in Monday's violence.

But the SPD also said it is preparing charges against some of the troublemakers linked to the violence.

The National Bureau of Investigation said it will probe into the incident.

Meanwhile, the situation at Silverio Compound appeared calm as of early Wednesday, radio dzBB's Sam Nielsen reported. –KG, GMA News
