Cops secure Manila, Pasay facilities for ADB meet


Police tightened security in Manila and Pasay Cities early Wednesday for the 45th Board of Governors' meeting of the Asian Development Bank from May 2 to 5.
 
In Pasay City, radio dzBB's Sam Nielsen reported police set up checkpoints near the Philippine International Convention Center where the meet was to be held.
 
Checkpoints were also set up along the routes to be used by the delegates, the report added.
 
Pasay City police chief Senior Superintendent Melchor Reyes said his men are guarding the perimeter of the PICC and the hotels of delegates in the city.
 
As of 6 a.m. Wednesday, police trucks were seen making constant patrols around the PICC.
 
Southern Police District head Chief Superintendent Benito Estipona ordered his men to be alert at all times, at least until after the ADB meet ends on May 5.
 
For its part, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority started implementing a truck ban from 4 a.m. to 9 p.m.
 
Meanwhile, in Manila, Manila Police District head Chief Superintendent Alejandro Gutierrez ordered his men to guard Roxas Boulevard and Taft and Quirino Avenues.
 
The MPD was also tasked to guard other venues in Manila where ADB-related activities were to be held.
 
Police likewise kept guard over Mendiola near Malacañang. –KG, GMA News
