MOA between UST, Brunei university expected soon
The Department of Foreign Affairs is currently awaiting the final draft of a Memorandum of agreement between the University of Santo Tomas and the Universiti Brunei Darussalam in which both universities will formalize their commitment to undertake collaborative efforts in the fields of educational programs and scientific research.
"I am confident that in the pursuit of academic excellence and scientific research, a (memorandum of agreement) will soon be signed to formalize exchanges between the leading educational institutions from both the Philippines and Brunei Darussalam," said Philippine Ambassador to Brunei Nestor Ochoa.
The possibility of a MOA between the UST and the Universiti Brunei Darussalam, or UBD, was arrived at during a visit by UST College of Science administrative and academic officials to Brunei last May 25 to 27.
In a May 26 meeting between the 10-member UST Faculty Council led by College of Science Dean Dr. Maribel Nonato and their UBD counterparts led by College of Science Deputy Dean Dr. Iskandar Pengiran Haji Petra, the UST Faculty Council expressed keen interest in working closely with UBD on:
- the exchange of academic and administrative staff and students;
- cooperation in research in the fields of natural products;
- biodiversity, sensors and molecular biology research;
- the exchange of academic materials, publications, and other scientific information and;
- the pursuit of other educational and academic exchanges.
Ambassador Ochoa hailed the positive outcome of the meeting between UST and UBD officials, noting that this will hopefully lead to further exchanges. — DVM, GMA News
