San Juan City folk douse passersby on patron saint's feast

Despite the hot weather in Metro Manila, it was a wet day in San Juan City Sunday as residents marked the feast of their patron saint by dousing people with water. Many residents gathered near the Pinaglabanan Shrine in the city to splash water on passersby and commuters in passing jeeps, radio dzBB's Roland Bola reported. No violence had been reported in the festivities as of 11 a.m., the report said. But in some instances, the report said some residents would block the path of some passing jeeps while others would then douse the passengers inside. San Juan City has been known for its celebration of the feast of St. John the Baptist, its patron saint, on June 24. The dousing of water is a nod to the saint's characteristic act of baptizing Jesus Christ. — LBG, GMA News
