Part of Taft near DLSU closed to traffic after road collapse

The southbound lane of the section of Taft Avenue from Quirino Avenue to Vito Cruz is closed to traffic, the Manila traffic enforcement unit said Saturday afternoon.   DLSU official student publication, The LaSallian, reported Friday evening that a part of the road caved in near the construction site of the SM Development Corp. (SMDC)   At around 9:19 p.m. on Friday, the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) posted a tweet for vehicles taking Taft Avenue to expect heavy traffic “dahil sa kumalat na lupa sa [kalye] sa ginagawang SM Hypermart.”   Manila TEU desk officer SPO1 John Palonson said in a phone interview with GMA News Online that traffic volume in that part of Taft Avenue is light because it is the weekend.   SMDC has yet to release a statement on the incident. Attempts by GMA News Online on Saturday to get their side have been unsuccessful. — ELR, GMA News
