MMDA: Road widening project may affect U-Belt area for months
The road-widening project at A.H. Lacson Street in Manila may affect the city’s University Belt (U-Belt) for the next several months, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority said Sunday. MMDA Chairman Francis Tolentino said that while only A.H. Lacson (formerly Gov. Forbes St.) will be widened, nearby streets such as Dimasalang, Lerma and Vicente Cruz may also be affected. “Ito ay ilang buwan gagawin sa area na yan (Expect the road works there to last for quite a few months),” he said in an interview on dzBB radio. He said the road works may also affect traffic passing through nearby España Avenue, which leads to the boundary between Manila and Quezon City. Tolentino advised motorists and public utility vehicle drivers to heed the Department of Public Works and Highways’ rerouting plans. “May epekto ito sa University Belt. Mas maganda ipaabiso sa motorista (na) may trabaho ang DPWH," he said. “Simula yan bukas umaga at inaasahan mabigat ang trapik (It will start on Monday and we expect traffic to be heavy in the affected areas),” he added. Earlier, the DPWH issued a travel advisory warning of heavy traffic when it starts road-widening activities along A.H. Lacson Street by July 16. The DPWH said this is in preparation for the C2-R7 (Forbes-España) Interchange Project. — LBG, GMA News
